Webinar Series Description: Active Empathic Listening for Professionals

Communication between adults and children in the first years of life is crucial for healthy child development and family dynamics. And listening is recognized as one of the fundamental rights of children and adolescents, as expressed in Articles 12 and 13 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). Listening to young children is easily overlooked within the family, school, and community contexts, which undermines the ability of young children to meaningfully participate in matters that are important to them.

This webinar series introduces professionals who interact with young people and their families to the concept of Active Empathic Listening (AEL), and provides evidence-based information on the life-changing impact of this dimension of human communication on many aspects of a child’s development. Participants will also learn how to practice AEL when interacting with young children and their families.
